Description: OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch 3590.50
The Omega Speedmaster is one of the most iconic timepieces in existence. The collection debuted in 1957 and would eventually outperform several other brands in a series of rigorous tests to earn the coveted title of the official watch of NASA and the distinction “Flight-Qualified by NASA for all Manned Space Missions.” Although the Speedmaster went to space in the early 1960s in an unofficial capacity, it was the Speedmaster with “Professional” written on the dial that would go on to accompany astronauts during the first Moon landing. The “Moonwatch,” as it has since come to be known, is one of the most sought-after Omega watches on the secondary market.
This reference, the 3590.50 was in production from 1988 to 1996 and was one of the last Speedmaster Professionals to use the caliber 861 movement. Omega made many different variations of this reference and the example we have here features the Tachymeter bezel without the accent mark as well as the reference 1479 bracelet which gives the watch a great look and feel. This bracelet style is similar to the one that Omega re-introduced for the most modern Speedmaster Professional. The lume on the dial of this watch has aged to a lovely pale yellow giving it that vintage vibe so many collectors seek. These early 1990s Speedmasters offer a great value for an iconic watch and are the perfect entry into the world of mechanical watches.
